Here are some of the more interesting moments spotted over the course of the season that might have been missed among the bigger stories of the Treble triumph. Jorge Gutierrez walks up to stand alongside the manager to great applause from the players as the coach helps outline that everyone is in it together. "Guys, good evening," he says. "Before we go to dinner I would like a big, big applause and invite to the stage Jorge [Gutierrez, sous chef]. I would like to invite Barney as well but unfortunately he is travelling with the families and just landed. It’s the last trip with us. "As a cook first, you are a genius. How many times we’re ungrateful for the fact you take care of us. You cook, and we leave. And sometimes we don't even say thank you. That is why we’re in the final of the Champions League, for these little details of you and all of you, to take care of all of us, especially the players. "That is the reason we’re here to make our
Job incredibly better. I have one wish for tomorrow. Of course, lift the trophy. But my wish is when we take the bus tomorrow to the stadium and everyone concentrates on himself and the
music. When Riyad [Mahrez] and Phil [Foden] play with the ball with this kind of process that I love you do, the most important is to feel everyone that we are there supporting the 11 players that start. Tomorrow the guys that are in the XI are going to represent all of us. We play for ourselves and for our fans, our people. Bonsai tree One of the good luck charms in City's run to the Treble may well have been a plant in their physio room. Erling Haaland brought it in, and everyone else followed. "Erling wanted it, he thought it would be nice for the physio room," explained John Stones. "Everyone bought into it. it was a bit decorative. Everyone took care of it and it became a thing where if you came in and you hadn't watered the bonsai you'd be angry with yourself." Haaland added: "The bonsai tree loves humidity so you have to bring it in the office. I'm having a bit of responsibility of the bonsai to give it the water it needs and feed it, get the right light and everything. The bonsai tree is exactly where you get energy from. We drag the energy out from the bonsai and bring it into the body. It's a tree that brings us good luck so we joke a lot with that." Pep's 22-word derby day team talk
Manchester City produced one of their best-ever derby performances last season to destroy
Manchester United 6-3, and it was made even more remarkable considering
Pep Guardiola gave no tactical advice in his pre-match team talk. City raced into a 4-0 lead in the first half, with Erling Haaland and Phil Foden at the double, with the shellshocked visitors unable to cope. A consolation after the break was cancelled out by hat-trick goals from Haaland and Foden, with two more late goals flattering United in an incredibly one-sided affair. In an incredibly short address to his squad, Guardiola just said: “Come here, close. Look at each other guys. Look your eyes. Look each other. Let’s go? Yes or no? Yeah? Come on.” After seeing what he wanted to in the eyes of his players, Guardiola clearly felt nothing more needed saying, and that was justified by the four goals in the first 45 minutes. Only then did the manager look to intervene at the break. “4-0, I cannot say is bad but it’s not perfect," he said. "Against Manchester United you have to drive more. Go, go, go, go, go. You were brilliant, but I push you all to be more perfect guys. I push you to be more perfect." At full-time, with the 6-3 win in the bag and the two hat-trick heroes earning the plaudits, Guardiola again chose to display his feelings with actions rather than words, getting a squad photo with all the players and backroom staff, standing at the back before leading a chant of 'City, City, City'. "We have to celebrate that. Bravo guys," he said before leaving.
