European countries are on ‘terror alert’, tightening their border controls after an attack on
Moscow by
ISIS that left more than 100 people dead. French president
Emmanuel Macron has revealed that the ISIS sect which claimed it was behind the concert hall massacre had already tried to carry out ‘several’ strikes in
France . Vigipirate, which is France’s security alert system, was pushed to its highest on Sunday after the president held an emergency meeting to discuss the security of the country. As the host of the 2024 Olympic Games, France’s security is already a tense situation. Macron shared that ISIS-K, the ISIS sector that is believed to have carried out the attack on Moscow had ‘attempted several times to hit France’, reports MailOnline. In a post on X, France’s prime minister Gabriel Attal said: ‘Given the Islamic State’s claim of responsibility for the attack and the threats weighing on our country, we have decided to raise the Vigipirate posture to its highest level: emergency attack.’ Those travelling to and from the
UK have been told by officials to expect ‘increased border processing times’ at the Port of Dover following Macron’s decision to heighten France’s security.
Italy have also implemented increased security checks in the lead up to Easter, this weekend. Jeremy Hunt admitted yesterday that the UK should ‘absolutely’ be concerned about the comeback of ISIS following the Moscow attack. ‘We are very lucky in this country that we have incredibly impressive intelligence agencies, who have been successful in stopping, in foiling a lot of terrorist threats over recent years,’ he said.
