James Martin playfully stormed off the set of Saturday Morning when First Dates star Merlin Griffiths asked him about the phenomenon of the airfryer. After Merlin quizzed the TV chef about the viral kitchen apparatus, James, 51, said: "See you later," and walked away from Romy Gill's cooking segment. Romy was preparing a Punjabi street food recipe, Aloo Bread Pakora and Mint Chutney with Chaat Masala, when Merlin asked if the deep-fried bread could be cooked in an air fryer instead. Merlin said: "It's got to be deep fried... it's interesting because people would traditionally keep a pot of fat on the stove for doing the odd bit of deep frying. These days - would this work in an air fryer I'm guessing?" James then pretended to gag at the suggestion before telling his guests: "I'm off! See you later." Romy seemed to agree with James, rolling her eyes and telling Merlin: "Please don't ask me about air frying - no, no! Absolutely not." Luckily for viewers, James came back to film the segment just moments later, patting Romy on the back and laughing with the production team. However, James has made his feelings about air fryers quite clear in the past, even dramatically claiming that the devices "should be banned" as households continue to rely on them for easy cooking. Kate Middleton James stormed off the set of Saturday Morning when First Dates star Merlin Griffiths asked him about the phenomenon of the airfryer ( Image: ITV1) The TV chef was showing off his cooking skills at a big food event in Birmingham. He made his own version of KFC, which he called JFC. He's not a fan of air fryers and told the crowd: "I don't use an air fryer. In my opinion they should be banned." While cooking the chicken, he also said: "I don't even want to speak to anyone that has an air fryer. You can't do this in a bl***y air fryer. It's got to be deep fried to get the colour, texture and flavour". It comes after James recently revealed his secret to losing three stone. The celebrity chef credits his weight loss to a major diet overhaul and a game-changing lifestyle adaptation. His huge weight loss is all down to eating fish twice a day. He said: "What could be simpler than pan-frying a little bit of salmon and serving it with some great new potatoes and seasonal veg?" James added: "Losing weight is a balance of everything, it's getting off your arse and doing more and not eating less, but eating a variety of different things. Water is the key. As you get older, I realised I don't need to go to the gym, I'm working [in the kitchen] all the time anyway. Water keeps your brain healthy and it keeps your skin healthy and it keeps you focused it's crazy when you give up soft drinks how much more your brain feels alive, it's very weird ."
