Erik ten Hag's time in charge of
Manchester United has been eventful to say the least. The Dutchman, like most of the United managers to have taken the hotseat since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013, has endured his fair share of highs and lows. For Louis van Gaal the high was the FA Cup final win over Crystal Palace; for
Jose Mourinho it was that emotional Europa League victory in Stockholm; Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had that glorious night in
Paris. But which are Ten Hag's best wins as United boss? There is no doubt the 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final triumph over
Liverpool ranks among them. MEN Sport takes a look. It was another raucous Old Trafford atmosphere and a win clinched in classic United style, coming from 1-0 down thanks to late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. Jack Grealish had put City ahead on the hour mark. Ten Hag has faced
Pep Guardiola and City on four other occasions during his two-season stint as manager and lost every time: including a 6-3 at the Etihad in the first one, that 2-1 defeat in the 2023 FA Cup final and the recent 3-1 reverse across the city. But he'll always have that January 2023 win. 2-1 vs Liverpool, August 2022 The first win of the Ten Hag era was as significant as it was necessary. Defeats to Brighton and Brentford at the start of the 2022/23 campaign had rocked the Dutchman at the start of his reign, but United were at their counter-attacking best in this surprise success against Liverpool . Rashford and Jadon Sancho were on target on a famous night at Old Trafford. It truly kickstarted Ten Hag's time as manager and, for him, will live long in the memory. Barcelona, February 2023 Was this United's best ever performance under Ten Hag? It's certainly in the conversation, especially when you consider their display in the first leg at the Camp Nou, sealing a 2-2 draw when they arguably deserved to win. No matter, United brought their A game against Barca at Old Trafford. The visitors went ahead through Robert Lewandowski's penalty, but that was cancelled out by Fred before Antony's second half winner. It was just a shame this was effectively a Europa League last 32 contest – the performance and occasion was more befitting of a later round. 4-3 vs Liverpool, March 2024 This was surely the most enthralling, dramatic and – for Ten Hag and United – satisfying game of the past two seasons. The Dutchman's side showed immense character after seeing their 1-0 lead turn into a 2-1 deficit by half-time, despite an excellent first half performance. Antony's late equaliser forced extra-time, but United had to fight back all over again after Harvey Elliott's deflected strike. First Rashford and then Amad sent the Stretford End into raptures and a famous FA Cup quarter-final victory was etched into United folklore forever. The win feels especially significant given United's season could have been effectively over had they been knocked out. It keeps Ten Hag's trophy hopes alive this term and could help his long-term
Job prospects too. (Image: 2024 Getty Images) 2-0 vs Newcastle, February 2023 At times this season, the Carabao Cup triumph of 2022/23 has felt a lifetime ago. United were deserved winners against Newcastle that day, going ahead in the first half through Casemiro and Rashford, before an excellent defensive shutout kept the score at 2-0. It saw United break a six-year trophy drought, their previous triumph coming in the Europa League back in 2017. The celebrations went on long into the night at Wembley, with it seeming back then that Ten Hag and his squad could kick on to even greater heights. Get United transfer news and updates on WhatsApp!
